Patriots Match Longest Winning Streak Since Brady Era with Triumph Over New York Jets
First-year player Henderson has recorded five TDs during the current campaign
The New England Patriots tied their longest winning run since the Tom Brady period as they defeated division rivals the New York Jets by 13 points in the NFL
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson was the standout with three scores as the Patriots claimed an eighth consecutive victory for the first time since iconic QB Tom Brady's last year with the franchise in the 2019 season
QB Maye accumulated 281 passing yards and a score, connecting on 25 passes from 34 throws
Victory extends the New England's lead at the top of the AFC East as they advanced to a 9-2 record, with the New York at the foot after falling to a 2-8 mark
The opposing team had taken the lead at their home field with QB Justin Fields rushing for a five-yard touchdown to conclude the New York's first possession
But the home team fought back in the second quarter as Henderson rushed for two seven-yard TDs before the running back caught a pass from Maye at the rear of the endzone midway through the third quarter to make it 21 to 7
"That was a crucial moment for him rising to the challenge, and it's been excellent for him to keep gaining experience," the quarterback commented on the rookie. "He desires to be great."
Justin Fields connected with John Metchie late in the third period to narrow the deficit for the Jets but Borregales kicked a two field goals in the final period as the Patriots closed out the win
